Police call in journalist Zakiah Koya for Sedition Act probe

The Heat Malaysia journalist is being investigated by police in regards to her article on the Citizens’ Declaration

KUALA LUMPUR: Journalist Zakiah Koya has been called in by the police for investigations under the Sedition Act 1948.

A journalist for news website The Heat Malaysia, Zakiah had written an article about the Citizens’ Declaration published by the site.

“Dear all, please be informed that journalist Zakiah Koya has been called by the police for investigation under the Sedition Act over an article regarding the Deklarasi Rakyat press conference on 4th March 2016,” read a message from Lawyers for Liberty (LFL).

She will be questioned at the Petaling Jaya district police headquarters at 2.30pm tomorrow, according to a report by Malaysiakini.

Zakiah will be accompanied by LFL officials Eric Paulsen and Melissa Sasidaran.

Zakiah is the second person called in for investigations into the matter, the first being activist Azrul Mohd Khalib, who started the online petition in support of the Citizens’ Declaration.
